Reported HERE is a case of Legionnaires’ Disease linked to the Institute of Animal Health at Pirbright, maybe unrelated to FMD, but it increases causes for concern.
Also, in the same BBC report is the culling of 362 animals at the third suspected FMD site. By far the largest number so far – making the total culled to date 576. This third farm says it’s “free range pork, chicken, duck, beef, veal, lamb, mutton, bacon, eggs, duck eggs and honey.” The loss of most of this locally-produced food is an absolute tragedy, I’m not sure, but my wife who attends Pirbright Country Market might bee feeding me their eggs and such. Must therefore start having more omelettes, if that’ll help them, when all this is over.
If you need to know more – there’s no better source that WARMWELL to keep you up to date, Jonathan Miller for incisive comment and now Matthew Weaver in the Guardian pitches in sensibly.
This story isn’t over yet – there’s a way to go.
